The Global Payroll Specialist joins Modulr Finance Operations team in Mumbai to independently own end-to-end payroll delivery across seven countries including India, UK, France, Spain, Ireland, US, and the Netherlands. Reporting to the AP and Payroll Supervisor, this role manages end-to-end payroll processing, employee benefits administration, and pension operations across varied international jurisdictions, ensuring all global employees are paid accurately and on time while adhering strictly to local statutory frameworks.
Payroll Processing and Delivery responsibilities
Owning and managing the global payroll calendar across all operational jurisdictions, ensuring cycles are planned, executed, and closed strictly on schedule.
Calculating and validating base salaries, variable pay, statutory deductions, benefits withholdings, and taxes across multiple country frameworks.
Preparing accurate multi-currency payroll reports, gross-to-net summaries, and bank disbursement files.
Investigating, auditing, and resolving payroll discrepancies independently while escalating exceptional items.
Serving as the day-to-day operational contact on all payroll matters for regional and central finance teams.
Systems and Process Improvement responsibilities
Maintaining and enhancing global payroll data systems, digital employee records, and standard operating procedures.
Identifying operational bottlenecks and driving automation and workflow improvements across international payroll processes.
Developing and standardizing payroll policies and documentation for newly incorporated or acquired entities.
Benefits and Pension Administration responsibilities
Managing employee benefits enrollment, tracking changes, and reconciling adjustments across regional healthcare and welfare programs.
Administering international pension and retirement contributions, including UK auto-enrolment compliance.
Processing benefit deductions and verifying deduction accuracy within monthly payroll files across jurisdictions.
Resolving employee inquiries regarding benefits calculations, pension contributions, and coverage across countries.
Multi-Country Compliance and Support responsibilities
Monitoring statutory compliance regarding payroll taxes, social security contributions, National Insurance, and statutory leave.
Preparing and filing local statutory returns including RTI, PAYE, and European social security submissions to respective tax bodies.
Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of evolving local payroll laws, labor policies, and tax rate updates.
Maintaining secure, confidential payroll records for all jurisdictions in compliance with global data protection standards.
Managing day-to-day relationships with third-party payroll partners such as Deel, Payfit, and Vistra to ensure adherence to service level agreements.
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
3 to 5 years of professional experience in payroll administration, multi-country payroll processing, or shared services operations.
Hands-on experience working with modern global payroll platforms such as Deel, Payfit, or comparable multi-country HRIS tools.
Practical understanding of international payroll compliance, statutory withholdings, and cross-border payroll procedures.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel including formulas, lookups, and reporting models.
High attention to detail, accuracy in working with complex financial datasets, and integrity handling confidential information.
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

Ability to work flexible shift timings covering core UK business hours (10:00 AM to 4:00 PM GMT/BST), with options such as 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, or 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM UK time.
